2 Samuel 22:50 Therefore I will praise you, Lord , among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.
I always love when I read a verse and discover something I never noticed in the past. That was the case today as I prepared this devotion. I have read this verse numerous times in the past, but today the phrase “among the nations” jumped out and grabbed my attention. But when reviewing the verse, I realized it does not include any elements of thanksgiving in it – just praise. Oops! So instead we will focus on how we can be thankful as we sing His praises among the nations.
This verse shows us that God’s praise should not be confined to just Israel. It is meant for the entire world! God wants EVERYONE to be saved and none to perish and we see this in the Old Testament as well as the New Testament.
David was praising God for what He had done for him. God had rescued him and brought him through trials and David was singing his praises of thanksgiving to God in response. Praise should be our automatic default response for something God does for us. We should be showing God how grateful we are for all the events in our lives and singing His praises in the same way David did in this passage.
In addition, David made this a public praise. He didn’t hide his praises and thanksgiving to God. He wanted to declare it worldwide because that is how amazing our God is and that is what He deserves. We should never hide our gratitude or praise from the world. We should all be publicly declaring our praises for all God has done. When you are truly grateful it is hard NOT to share what He has done.
Are you praising Him for what He has done in your life? And is that praise full of thanks and gratitude? Shout it out! Tell the world. Let people know how amazing God is for what He has done and is continuing to do in you each day!
