Devotion: 1 Peter 5:10

June 20, 2026

1 Peter 5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

This book written by Peter was sent to Christians who were scattered throughout Asia Minor, or modern-day Turkey. They were facing hostility and persecution for their belief in Christ. Peter gave them encouragement in this letter, especially within this verse. Let’s break down what he had to say to these early believers.

This verse is a promise that assures us that any suffering we may experience here on earth is just a prelude to eternal glory. We are told that God will restore us, as well as provide strength, making us stand firm and have steadfast confidence.

We can break it down specifically into four parts: restoration, confirmation/security, strength, and establishing. Peter begins by acknowledging the trials and persecutions of life, seeing them as real issues we face, yet also temporary. When we look at our life in comparison with eternity, even a lifetime of hardship and suffering is short. And we will be restored from all of the suffering and trials.

Peter guarantees us that God will take action to make us whole, firm, and unshakeable. This verse is confirmation of that security. We know without a doubt that He loves us and will bring restoration and renewal into our lives if we seek Him and His ways/will.

We are equipped with the inner power we need to be able to endure the trials we face. We have the Spirit within us to guide us, empower us, and strengthen us. We do not go through trials alone. We have a Comforter that is always with us, always present and ready to help. We must learn to discern His guiding hand and His will for our lives.

What a beautiful promise we have in the words of Peter. He Himself will restore us and make us strong. Today let’s take a few moments to pause and thank Him for actively working in our lives and guiding us, strengthening us, and giving us security. Feel His renewal through your life. Give Him praise for all He has done for you and is yet to do. And know that any suffering you face will end in restoration and renewal.

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for the renewal and restoration you bring after suffering and trials left me feeling discouraged and despondent. I pray that I may never forget the strength and renewal You have given me. Amen
