Devotion: John 3:16-17

July 20 2025

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Today’s verse is one of the most famous and most frequently quoted Scriptures in the Bible. Numerous devotions have been written on the subject, so you probably wonder what we might learn today that is any different than what others have said before. And it probably is the same, but it is worth repeating and celebrating.

Our Father loves us and wants us to be with Him forever. He wants us to flee the condemnation that prevents us from enjoying a full life, a life in Him. He loves us so much that He sent His Son, His dearly beloved Son Jesus, to be the sacrifice required by the Law for the atonement of sin. His Son offers salvation to all who believe in Him, not condemnation.

Believing in Jesus is not just an intellectual action taken. It is trusting Him, understanding that He died in our place, and accepting that we can be free – that we are already free and simply need to embrace that freedom through our belief. Our lives are transformed when we enter into a personal relationship with Him. And this message of freedom is for every person, not just a few select people. He died for ALL of mankind, all of humanity. He died for YOU. He died for me. And He wants you to walk in His freedom and love, forever, for all eternity.

God’s love for us is infinite. It is limitless. It knows no bounds. Our feeble minds can’t comprehend just how amazing and great His love for us truly is. Today let’s thank Him for the freedom He has given us, praise Him for not condemning us no matter how much we deserve it. And let’s celebrate His love by being obedient to His call to true freedom.
