Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging /one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
We are made to be with others. God said in the beginning that it is not good for man to be alone and created Eve to be a companion and helpmeet (Genesis 2:18). We are social creatures who thrive on togetherness. We are meant to be in community, but choose your community wisely so they do not lead you into sinful ways.
We see in today’s verse that community is important, especially if we want to grow spiritually. When we are in community with like-minded believers, we have accountability. We also encourage one another, walking alongside each other through the things in our lives. When we are in a strong community we are able to stand firm in our faith and live out our God-given purpose.
I read an analogy that brought this to life for me in a powerful way. When you have an ember that you have removed from the fire it glows bright and strong at first, but begins to slowly dim and lose its intensity. But if you put that dying ember back in the fire with other embers it is revitalized and glows stronger than ever.
We are like this ember. We may glow bright for a time, but when we lack community, when we have no accountability or encouragement, our light begins to dim. We lose our vibrant glow. But when we surround ourselves with Christians and we actively fellowship with them, our glow is renewed and we burn brightly. Community is crucial for support, instruction, accountability, and fellowship and worship.
If you do not have a home church or Christian community that helps you grow in your faith, find one. You need it more than you realize. Don’t lie to yourself and say you are fine on your own. The enemy wants you to stay separated because you are more easily influenced and turned away from the purpose God has for your life. You can be easily discouraged, filled with doubt, and susceptible to depression.
You were meant for more. Seek fellowship with others and let God use You for the purpose He made you for. Be encouraged and supported by fellow believers.
