Review:
This is the second book in the Elements of Danger series. I enjoyed the first book, Fire Mountain, very much, though it was a bit farfetched and predictable at times. And this book was similar in design, but this time being the danger of water and flooding. As with the first book, the romance develops naturally as the characters have to rely on one another to survive and there is suspense, excitment, and danger at every turn. This time the characters had a history with one another and it was not a pleasant one. It was a history of bitterness and blame. But you see them overcome this as they struggle to outrun the drug kingpin and assassins, while fleeing the rising floodwaters, too. And throughout the whole book you see elements of faith woven in, though they are not overwhelming or in your face. They are subtle and natural, easily included without it feeling forced or manipulated. Overall this was another exciting, on the edge of your seat book from author Dana Mentink and one that I highly recommend, even if at times it seemed a bit of a stretch and overly predictable. It is still a great read and full of excitement, suspense, romance, and danger.
