Fellowship

Fellowship; what is meant when a believer speaks of fellowship? But if we walk in the light as he (God) is the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin (1 John 1:7).

The Holy Spirit whom Jesus has sent brings fellowship to the believer if we are walking in God’s light (Philippians 2:1). Not only fellowship with other believers, but fellowship and communion with God’s Son.

What is God’s light? It is the awakening of one’s soul to the truth of sin. It is the restoration of a person’s relationship to God bridged by the blood of Jesus. It is to be seen of God. It is the mind of Christ replacing the reprobate mind of one that was lost. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful (1 Corinthians 1:9). Apart from Jesus we are unable to do anything and our fellowship with God is broken. For this reason, we are encouraged in (John 15:5) to remain in Him.

What is the Word remain implying? To remain in Him is to endure through whatever comes against you in your walk with God. To abide and to be unmoved in our affections toward the one who has called us from darkness into the light. To stand our ground against our enemy. No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or knows Him (1 John 3:16). To live in Christ is to live free of sin and its consequences. To live in Christ is to have fellowship or to create a union through the spirit with Jesus and all other believers who live in Him. To live in Christ is to live a life of complete surrender and obedience to His will.

Together with other believers, we can partake of the un-searchable riches of Christ. We can make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hid in God (Ephesians 3:8-9). No matter our race or nationality, the Spirit of the Lord brings a fellowship or a partnership between other believers and God himself. We become partakers and share in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
