A New Creation

by Micah Messer

“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins…But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.”
(Eph. 2:1,4)

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Cor. 5:17)

These words the Apostle Paul wrote the Ephesian and Corinthian churches. Read it over again. Highlight it in your Bible. Write it in your journal. Keep it in your memory. Make it personal. At salvation you because a new creation. The old is over; the new is now. You were a sinner. You’re now a saint. No longer a slave of Satan, you are a servant of the Savior. You traded stained rags for a spotless robe. You now travel the straight, narrow path to everlasting life instead of the crooked, wide road to eternal destruction. You forsook the wrong to follow the right. You abandoned the evil to accomplish the good. You are now led by the Spirit not lost in sin. Holiness overcame worldliness. Righteousness conquered wickedness. Light prevailed against darkness.

Christians are new creations! They put off the old lifestyle and put on the new. Liars speak honestly. Deceivers talk truthfully. Adulterers and fornicators honor marriage. Perverts maintain purity. Idolaters make God priority. Husbands sacrifice for wives. Wives submit to husbands. Parents love their kids. Rebellious children obey willingly. Lazy employees work diligently. Greedy scrooges give generously. Prodigals return home. Fools learn wisdom. Legalists follow faith. Hypocrites become genuine. Critics start complimenting. Traitors turn loyal. Doubters find assurance. Cowards stand courageous. Quitters finish the course. Thieves pay tithes. The grumpy are grateful. The thoughtless are thankful. Depression fades into joy. Loneliness discovers contentment. Bitterness becomes forgiveness. Hatred changes into kindness. Pressure turns into peace. Rage is restrained by self control. Selfishness gives into service. Violence transforms into gentleness. Pride conforms into humility. Mercy replaces justice. Meekness surrenders rights. Patience endures. Faith believes the invisible. Hope achieves the impossible.

And love never fails.

You, who was once dead in trespasses and sins, are now alive in Christ. At salvation you became a new creation. Live like it.
