Psalms 3:3-6 But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.
Today we see within the first few words the hope and comfort of our Lord protecting us. The passage continues, showing what we should do to help ourselves to have no fear. There’s a lot of promises in this passage of verses, which we will be going over in super short paragraphs.
We begin with the promise that we should have no need to fear because His shield is around us. He protects us. And because He is protecting us, we should have no reason to fear anything.
Next we see we have a God who responds when we call out to Him, so there is no need to fear the unknown or anything else. He is faithful to answer us when we cry out to Him. Keep in mind sometimes His answers are not what we expect, and in some cases the answer is no.
We see next that we can lie down to sleep knowing we are safe. He watches over our slumber (Psalms 23:2). We can take comfort in knowing He watches while we sleep. “The Lord sustains me” means He provides for us and satisfies all our needs.
And we wrap it up with the knowledge that though we are surrounded by tens of thousand, we are safe. The “tens of thousands” may come in the shape of uncertainty, gossip about us, financial struggles, etc. But whatever form it takes, God has our back . Do not fear.
One last thing… Did you notice in the first verse it says his head was lifted high? We should celebrate that. God lifts us up from darkness and despair, so we should boldly wear His power, majesty, and glory like royal robes. He has touched us, reached over, lifted our heads bowed by the burdens of sin. He loves us no matter what.
Isn’t it comforting knowing we do not have to worry about life? There’s nothing to fear because God provides. We can take joy in celebrating all of the ways He has saved us. Set those fears aside and start living in His promises.
