T4JYM: Tell our readers a little about your latest book, Across the Ages coming out November 5, 2024, and what they can expect from it.
GM: Absolutely! Across the Ages is the fourth book in my Timeless Series, and though it can be read as a stand-alone book, it is best read in order. The first book in the series is When the Day Comes. Each story is about a time crosser who was born with the gift of living more than one life at a time.
In Across the Ages, Caroline lives in 1727 as the daughter of a Virginia plantation owner and in 1927, she lives in Minneapolis as the daughter of a famous preacher. She has two physical bodies, but one conscious mind that travels between them. When she goes to sleep in one life, she wakes up in the other, with no time passing while she is gone. She was abandoned by her mother in 1727 and believes her mother knows the secrets to her time crossing gift. To find the answers, Caroline disguises herself as a man to join a ship headed to Nassau, Bahamas, her mother’s last known location. But nothing goes as planned, and Caroline is soon captured by pirates! As her two lives become intertwined, and she comes face to face with gangsters in 1927, she uncovers the answers she was seeking – only to realize they pose more problems than solutions.
T4JYM: What’s next? What is in the works for you and what can readers be watching for next?
GM: The next book in my Timeless Series will be released in May 2025. Every Hour Until Then is about a time crossing woman named Kathryn who lives in London in 1888 and Washington, DC in 1938. With only fifty years between her two lives, she risks running into people from her past who threaten her future. In 1938, she travels to London as a guest curator for the London Museum and learns that she will put together an exhibit on Jack the Ripper. While researching the case, she quickly discovers that her younger sister in 1888, who has been missing for almost a year, will become Jack’s last victim. She is now running out of time to try to save her sister and must decide if she’ll unmask the man history has chosen to keep a secret.
I am so excited about this story and can’t wait to share it in May!
T4JYM: I see from your website you also write devotions. Are these published books or daily devotions you post online for readers? And if online, where can they go to read these?
GM: I write devotions for Daily Guideposts, which is now called Walking in Grace. They publish a new book of daily devotions each year, from dozens of different authors. My devotions are sprinkled throughout each book.
T4JYM: How do you find time to write when you are so busy homeschooling and keeping up with kid’s events?
GM: My writing is my day job. I write Monday through Friday, four or five hours a day. Just like any working mom, I have to be organized and diligent to get everything done. My children are now older and more self-sufficient (my oldest is a junior in college and my other three are all in high school), and my husband owns a landscaping and lawn care company, so he is home most of the winter to help. I work in the mornings and try to be done just after lunch, so I am free for afternoon and evening activities. Thankfully, my work allows my schedule to be flexible, as well.
T4JYM: What kinds of books do you enjoy reading? What are you reading currently?
GM: I love clean historical romances, and I am currently reading A Matter of Honor by Laura Frantz. She is one of my favorite authors!
T4JYM: I LOVE the idea of the workshops you offer on your website. Can you tell our readers what they might expect from them if they wanted to sign up?
GM: I currently have two online workshops available. One is called How to Write a Novel in Thirty Days and the other is 10 Essential Elements for a Memorable Story. Both are about an hour and a half in length and cover some things like my plotting techniques, how I craft my characters, how I brainstorm my stories, as well as the elements I add to make my stories engaging and compelling.
T4JYM: What advice would you give to the youth of this world?
GM: This is a hard question, because everyone is so different and comes from such different backgrounds. If I could only give one piece of advice it would be the advice I give my own children. Think deeply and ask a lot of questions—about everything from faith to politics to history and current events. Don’t accept what is being fed to you without questioning it, and always search for the truth. Matthew 7:7.
