Devotion: Job 22:27

October 11, 2024

Job 22:27 – You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows.

If you have read the book of Job, you know this is the point of the book where Job gets his life put back together and returns to God. Up to this point his defense was all about himself, what he did or what he abstained from, not about God and what He has done for Job. But at this point we see a complete change in Job.

This verse shows us the need to pray to God and why we should place our trust in Him. We need Him, we want fellowship, and we need to pray and be restored. This goes hand in hand with what we learned in yesterday’s devotion. And like earlier verses, we  see the promise that God hears our prayers. That is a promise we can find hope in.

The end of the verse speaks of vows. In ancient Israel, vows were taken very seriously. Vows were promises and as such were binding. We see in today’s verse that honoring our commitments (vows) to God is an important thing to do, especially if we hope to receive help from Him or answers to our prayers.

Celebrate the promise that He hears our prayers and He answers them in His timing. Don’t give up praying, but instead pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
