Devotion: Hebrews 4:16

February 6, 2025

Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

In the Old Testament, people had to provide sacrifices to atone for their sins. But with the death of Jesus, our sin debt has been paid. We are no longer required to make animal sacrifices. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice that wiped away our sins and past and we are now new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Because we have been forgiven, we can come to God directly instead of turning to another person (a priest) to intercede on our behalf. Jesus has become our High Priest (Hebrews 2:17). We have confidence in our ability to approach the throne of grace directly on our own and can be assured that He hears us and will respond accordingly. We know that our God is a loving Father who wants what is best for us and when we come to Him with the right heart posture and surrender, He will respond with grace and mercy. We can approach confidently because we know that we will not be judged harshly or receive punishment, but will instead receive grace in His response.

Today let’s focus on surrendering our sins and needs to Him. Let us boldly come before the throne of grace and have full confidence that He hears and wants what is best for our lives. We have no reason to fear judgement or think we will be punished. Instead we can confidently believe that He is listening.
