Devotion: Psalm 33:2

April 23, 2025

Psalm 33:2 Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten stringed lyre.

There is power in music. It evokes emotions within us and aids us in our worship experience. Music serves an important purpose when we are praising God, which is why it is used in church services. Worship allows us to enter His presence and prepares our hearts for the message we will hear.

This verse speaks specifically about the harp and lyre, or ten stringed instruments. These instruments were used to enhance the worship experience, making worship complete and eliciting emotional responses. David often sang his psalms with the accompaniment of the lyre.

Depending upon who you ask, the ten stringed instrument is thought by some to be more symbolic. They claim it represents completeness and serves as a reminder that we are to worship fully without abandon, holding back nothing. Others believe it represents the Ten Commandments.

Regardless of the interpretation you choose to believe, come before Him in pure worship. Use anything God has given you to help guide your time with Him. It might be instruments, your voice, or simply the radio. But give your praise wholeheartedly and completely because He is worthy of our worship.

Spend time today reflecting on His attributes. Thank Him for the things He has done for you. Praise Him with music, both vocal and instrumental if you can. Offer Him the whole you and find joy in this act of worship.
