Devotion: 1 Peter 1:7

June 1, 2025

1 Peter 1:7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith – of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire – may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

We begin our month focusing on faith by looking at a passage from the Apostle Peter in which he speaks of trials we face as believers and the purpose for them. As believers there is always something we can learn from the experiences we face. We have a choice of growing in grace or grumbling in despair. Hopefully we choose to grow in our faith rather than dwelling in unhappiness and bitterness.

Scripture shows us that there is a greater purpose for what we endure. Not only does this verse tell us that, but also James 1:2-4 and Romans 5:3-4. Both of these verses show us that our suffering and experience always has a greater purpose, one designed to help us grow in our faith, trust, and hope. As we push through trials, God provides for us and helps us stand strong as we trust in Him to guide us.

Our faith is tested. It is refined and made pure, just as gold refined in a fire. We come through the flames, strengthened and purified. And that faith will endure. It will carry us through this earthly life we live and into eternity.

And the end result is praise, glory, and honor. We become active participants in this process and our faith will be rewarded and  vindicated. When Jesus returns He will be glorified and our praise will fill the earth as we give Him honor.

Today and throughout this month let’s choose to grow in our faith, be refined in the fire, and bring glory to our Lord.
