Devotion: Hebrews 11:1

June 4, 2025

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

At the end of the previous chapter, the author of Hebrews reminded readers to have faith. This set the stage for examples that were coming later in the book. I recommend reading the previous chapter before beginning today’s devotion, just to get a better understanding of what is being said. It might also be good to read on and see some of the great names and their stories of faith, all of which are truly inspiring.

We have heard it said before that faith is blind, which seems to be reinforced by this verse since it speaks of assurance about what we do not see. I don’t know about you, but my faith has grown based upon what I HAVE seen in my own life. Every time I wonder how I will make it the, how we will get by, how hopeless the situation feels, God shows up and makes it work. I may not see Him, but I see Him at work and my faith is strengthened.

Faith truly is confidence in what we hope for. We can be confident in Him to be there for us, to show up, to love us and provide. And as we see this confidence proven truthful, our faith grows. The greats we read about in Hebrews all demonstrated confidence in God and had strong faith. It did not matter how impossible things seemed. They were confident that God would work. And He did!

What about you? Is your faith shaken? Or are you confident in your beliefs? Do you know He will work in your life or do you doubt? Let the stories of these champions of faith be your inspiration. Trust in Him and know wholeheartedly that He is going to do great things.
