I think I am so used to reading historical fiction that venturing into another area is challenging to me. It took me some time to get into this story because of it being contemporary fiction, but I am glad I did not give up on reading and walk away from the book. Being an avid reader myself and having read many classics, I was able to appreciate the story once it got going fully. And at that point I was all in. I was fully invested. I had been sucked in to the story and the only way out was to engage in non-stop reading. I found myself unable to put it down once I connected with the story and at that point quickly made it through the entire book in a little more than a day. This was my first experience with one of author Sara Brunsvold’s works and not in my typical wheel house (not the genre I normally devour) but I can say it was a true treat. I had no problems with overall readability, finding the grammar and mechanics to be professional and accurate with nothing to distract readers. The flow from page to page was smooth and easy going and the plot was not only one readers can easily connect with, but one that is easy to believe and understand. It was well written with good character development. I enjoyed seeing the growth each of the women in this book made. It was encouraging to see. It was also a great reminder that family is important and that we need them so not to take them for granted. Though I had a slow start, I definitely enjoyed this story and look forward to seeing what Brnsvold offers up next.
