Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Have you ever thought about WHY Christ set us free? Why did He give Himself in our place? What was the point of His death? Paul tells us in today’s verse that He set us free for freedom. He wants us to be free of the yoke of slavery, free of the sins that hold us down and keep us from thriving. He set us free so that we could LIVE in Him, free and unburdened.
Yet so many people still act like they are shackled. Yesterday we discussed the fact that many people still linger within those self-made prisons rather than embracing the freedom He has blessed us with. Are you one of them? Are you holding yourself back and denying yourself the freedom He has given you?
Our freedom is not just a lack of physical restraints that bind us and hold us back. It is liberation from the bondage of sin. It is freedom from the endless pursuit of righteousness through obedience to the Law. The Law was fulfilled with His death. He paid the final price, the ultimate sacrifice needed to cleanse us of all wrongdoing. He gave Himself so that we could walk in freedom.
Paul urges us to stand firm, to remain steadfast in our freedom. Resist the temptation to return to those old, legalistic ways. Flee the shackles that once held you captive, slaves to sin. Walk in confidence knowing that He has made a way for us to move forward, to live a life full of freedom and joy in Him. He has made us clean, righteous, acceptable to God. Stand in confidence knowing this, knowing you are free, knowing you are no longer chained.
You are free. It is time to start living like it, to fully embrace the freedom He has blessed us with and to live a life for Him. Step out in faith, reach for His hand, and walk proudly in your newfound freedom.
