Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
If you have never read the book of Job you are missing out on some great messages. Today’s verse, spoken by Elihu (a friend who came to comfort Job in his grief), reminds us that it is the Spirit of God that has made us. It is His breath that animates our lungs, flows through our bodies. It is through Him that we exist, through Him that we live. He is the one who gave us life.
The words of Elihu take us back to the creation story (Genesis 2:7). God breathed the breath (ruach) into Adam and gave him life. And it is through His continued power that we sustain life. It is through the breath of God that new life begins, that our hardened, sinful hearts are transformed. We see it again in Ezekiel when the Spirit brought dead bones back to life (Ezekiel 37:14). The spirit of God put breath into the bones and they had life once again.
It is that same breath that fills you, the same Spirit that gives you life. And His breath brings more than just life. His breath also brings healing and restoration, just like it did in the valley of bones. His breath brings cleansing to us. We are a new creation that is filled with His cleansing, mighty Spirit.
May we never forget that we are filled with the Spirit, the same Spirit that brought life to Adam and to the bones in the valley. His Spirit not only dwells within you, but sustains you, transforms you, bringing healing and restoration. Come before the throne of God today and thank Him for breathing His mighty breath into your body.
