Devotion: Colossians 3:12

Oct. 26, 2025

Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

As believers we have been given grace upon grace upon endless grace. But what do we do with that grace once received? And considering each day is a new opportunity to receive grace again, what is our response?

Paul gives us a few ideas which can be found in today’s verse. He gives us a list of virtues that we choose to embrace each day. Virtues that we can put on like clothing. Choices we make each day and throughout the week. Choosing to clothe ourselves daily with these virtues is our way of sharing the grace we received with others.

We show grace to others when we treat them with kindness.

We show grace to our loved ones when we are patient with them regardless of whether they are poking at that last nerve.

We show grace with others when we choose compassion despite what might be going on in our own lives.

We choose to extend grace to others by daily clothing ourselves with each of these virtues. The next verse goes on to say forgiving them as Christ forgave us. And over all of it we put on love.

I don’t know about you, but some days those virtues are the furthest thing from my mind. I have to remind myself to put on patience, to put on kindness, to clothe myself in compassion. Why? Because that is evidence of God at work within me and I need to share His grace with others since He so generously blessed me with it.

Today let’s choose grace. Clothe yourselves with everything you need to bestow that same grace upon others.
