Devotion: Galatians 6:9

Dec 29, 2025

Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

When I sat down to write this devotion I found myself asking, “What will we harvest?” I understand the call to persevere in doing good. We have talked a lot about kindness this month. But I was curious about what kinds of things we’d harvest if we persevered. So I dug into the Word and started looking into the verse more online.

But first let’s go back to the beginning of the verse. Let us not become weary in showing kindness and doing good to others. We are reminded to hang in there, to persevere, to not give up. No matter how ungrateful someone may be when you show them kindness, don’t stop doing it. No matter how unresponsive they may seem, keep doing it. No matter how many thank you’s you get, continue doing good.

When we do good, we are showing people Christ in us. It takes me back to the What Would Jesus Do days (WWJD bracelets were huge for awhile). What would He do? Would He grumble about them not saying thank you when holding open a door? Would He roll His eyes when they ignored your good morning? Would He turn His back on someone who dropped their stuff and was scrambling to pick it up? What WOULD He do in the situation you find yourself in? When you put it in that perspective it is obvious. He would do good. He would help. He would show love, compassion, sympathy, He would care. So why don’t we? Why do we let our worldly side come out instead and stop doing good? Don’t grow weary, friends. Press on. Keep doing good, no matter the response.

And that harvest? We will experience rewards and blessings for doing good. We will reap blessings from Him in due time. He will reward us, whether here on earth or when we get to heaven where we are storing up our treasures. We have the promise of eternity waiting for us with all of its glory and rewards. So hang in there and keep going. Keep doing what He calls you to do.

Persevere. Don’t stop doing good because in the end you will reap blessings and reward for your efforts today.
