Devotion: John 3:21

Jan 26, 2026

John 3:21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

Darkness covers things. It hides them away. That is why so many crimes are committed during night or under the cover of darkness. And with darkness, we also find judgment, blame, deception, and condemnation. As believers we no longer walk in the ways of the world. We walk in the Light and live our lives committed to honesty and integrity.

When we walk in Truth, there is nothing that remains hidden. We live a life of transparency, our lives shining with the light of Christ. We have nothing to hide because our actions line up with God’s will and are exposed by His light. It’s like turning on a flashlight in a small, dark room. The light shows everything that darkness tried to hide. The same is true in our lives. Walking in Truth means we choose to walk in open transparency for all to see.

It is also important to remember that good works done from the faith of an obedient servant does not happen from within us. We are enabled by and our actions are accomplished through the Holy Spirit at work in us. Through His power, we are able to walk in the Truth and His light.

Notice the verb tense in this verse – lives, comes, may be seen.  Each of these speaks to action, ongoing and forthcoming. It is a call to all believers to choose to be obedient to the One who calls us from darkness into the Light. It calls us from condemnation into transparency and integrity. It calls us to live boldly and openly, with full honesty, allowing Him to guide our lives.

To know His Truth, we must study the Word and obey. That requires us to be actively seeking God’s will for our lives and making every effort to live by the Truth.what steps are you taking to be in the Truth today?

Prayer: Lord, I don’t want to dwell in darkness. Let Your light shine through me illuminating my whole life and may it be pleasing to You. Amen
