Devotion: Psalm 96:10

May 28, 2026

Psalm 96:10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.

Psalm 96 is one of the anonymous psalms that is attributed to King Daivd. In this case, many of the points made in this chapter correspond with 1 Chronicles 16:23-33, which records the song sung as the Ark of the Covenant was brought back to Jerusalem.

But what does all that have to do with Psalm 96:10 and what can we draw from it for use in our lives today?

This verse, taken from the longer chapter, is a reminder that God is sovereign over all and as such He will judge things fairly and without bias. We are to be obedient to His call and go before the nations proclaiming His Name. That is our part, what we are called to do. We are not called to judge anything ourselves because He will judge the people with equity. He alone is worthy to judge and He created it all and reigns sovereignly over everything, seeing all of the evil and worldly things being done.

He will judge everyone fairly and with equity. As a warning to those not walking in His ways and not living appropriately or morally, it serves its purpose. It is a reminder to those who walk in sin that there are consequences for disobedience and judgement is coming.

But for believers, it gives us hope. We know that His justice is perfect and fair. It is impartial. And it is faithful. We can trust in this, having full confidence that our Lord is a right and fair Judge who will step in and pronounce judgement in the most equitable way.

How will you live? Will you continue to live a flesh filled, worldly life of sin, taking grace for granted? Or will you step into your calling and do what you are supposed to do, as He has intended? He will judge all and all alike. And I don’t want to be told, “Depart. I never knew you.” I want to hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Prayer: Lord, Thank you for being a fair Judge. Thank You for caring enough to give us warnings of the coming judgement we will all face and the time to get right with You. Amen
