Guilt – Another View

By: Hilary Winters

You feel awful, like you deserve harsh punishment. You may get angry or even cry, wishing for nothing more than to be rid of that feeling.

After all, wouldn’t it be great if your failures and the wrong things you have done were gone forever? Taken away and forgotten?

Well, here is the catch, that is exactly what God does when he forgives you.

Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more! Hebrews 10:17

It took me a long time to get where I am today- a strong follower of the Lord, a disciple, a true evangelist. However, I have experienced tremendous amounts of guilt along the way. Thing’s I have done I thought would never be forgotten, much less forgiven, and anyone to accept me would be too kind. I prayed that the Lord have mercy on me, I knew I had made a mistake, and I was truly sorry. I wanted the guilt and it’s painful existence to go away. God gave me the strength and helped me to my feet. His forgiveness took a heavy weight off my shoulders. Although it took me some time, with the help of the Lord, I could see through the clouds at the sun, and find my way.

It takes time to learn to live with forgiveness instead of guilt. Now and then I look back and shake my head, but I know in my heart the love and grace of God has forgiven me.

Just remember when you do wrong to face up to it. Confess it to God, and let him forgive you. Jesus died to take your sins away. He will take your guilty feelings too.

And remember Psalm 32:5 I will confess my transgressions to the Lord- and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
