Devotion: Deuteronomy 31:6

July 14, 2024

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

As believers we are called to walk by faith. Walking by faith means we place our trust in Him to guide us and lead us on our journey. In this verse we are called to be both strong and courageous which then allows us to face our fears and set them aside. The verse concludes with the promise that God goes with us and He will never leave or forsake us. Beautiful, isn’t it?

Then why do we ignore His instructions? Why do we think our way is so much better? Instead of trusting in Him we rely on our own substandard existence, thinking we don’t need help from anyone or anything.

If that describes you, today’s verse was meant for you.

Fear can be crippling. It can reduce us to a shivering shell of ourselves. Being told, “Do not be afraid“ is like drinking air – it just doesn’t work. But saying, “Do not be afraid“ followed by the promise God will go with us changes everything. While WE may not see the end results, we can still be courageous knowing that He has  overcome the world (John 16:33).

God is our true source of strength. We surrender what we have and what we are to step  into who He is and His will. We are called to trust in the Lord with all our heart (Proverbs 3:5). The good news is that unlike the Israelites wandering the desert, we have the Holy Spirit that guides us in every way possible.

Are you living a life of fear? Take a few moments and pray. God has a plan – trust in it!!!
