Psalms 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
We never know what tomorrow will hold and should count our blessings today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, but we have a God in heaven waiting to spend eternity with all whose names are found written in the Book of Life. I pray your name is there and if not that you would accept Jesus as your Savior. He died for you so that you could live.
This verse from Psalms 90 serves as a reminder that we should number our days. What does that mean? It means we need to be living our limited days on earth in the right manner because we will all stand before the throne for judgment (2 Corinthians 5:10). By living a life that will glorify God we can gain wisdom. Or at least we demonstrate wisdom when we live each day to the fullest, aware that our days on earth are drops in a bucket. Poor choices have consequences.
Even Jesus warned us to be living a life that is pleasing to God. He shared a parable about a rich man who thought he had plenty of time to live but actually did not. We see this parable in Luke 12:19-21. He thought he could live a life of indulgence, giving little thought to God. But he was wrong and he died sooner than he expected.
Don’t be like the rich man in Luke. Listen to the caution in Psalm 90. Count your days. Learn to live for Him and make the right choices. Use wisdom in choosing how you will live your remaining days. Pursue goodness, holiness, and the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). Trust that there is more to life than what we know here and now.
Each day is a gift from God. Give it back to Him in your choice to seek His ways. Store up your treasures in heaven (Luke 12:33) because tomorrow may not come. But judgment will.
