Devotion: Ecclesiastes 8:1

September 14, 2024

Ecclesiastes 8:1 Who is like the wise? Who knows the explanation of things? A person’s wisdom brightens their face and changes its hard appearance.

A person’s face can say volumes about them as an individual. We sometimes don’t realize how much our face reveals to those who see us, especially if you are the type who can’t control your expressions. (I am that person. You see my every thought, emotion, and expression, whether I want to hide it or not!)

But this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Today’s verse says a person’s wisdom brightens the face. It changes a hard appearance. This wisdom, our love for God, literally transforms us, both inside and out. As believers we are to be a light on a hill (Matthew 5:14). We are to let our light shine for everyone to see (Matthew 5:16).

We can let our light shine by sharing our wisdom with others. We can be like the men from Issachar who understood the times and what should be done (1 Chronicles 12:32). We can call upon the Spirit and trust in the guidance we receive when sharing. And that light within us, that brightens our face and transforms our appearance, will attract people to us.in this way we can reach a lost world with the message of Christ.

What is your face saying about you? Is it brightening your appearance through His empowering, life changing wisdom?
