Devotion: Psalm 69:30

April 25, 2025

Psalm 69:30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

Psalm 69 is another one that starts as a lament and then shifts to thanksgiving. It is the laments in our lives that shape us and develop our testimonies, and after we have gone through the fire we glorify Him with thanksgiving. The structure of Psalm 69 begins with lament, then progresses to offering a commitment to praise, and concludes with the gratitude of thanksgiving.

We begin with the commitment to praise. In this case we see the psalmist committing to song for their praise. For some, song is a more natural method of praise. If you find vocal praise easier to express yourself with, then by all means, lift that voice up. If singing is not your chosen method, pray about what you might try instead. Get creative if need be, but find a way to commit to praising Him.

Thanksgiving is all about gratitude. We stop and ponder the blessings He has bestowed upon us and then we praise Him for each one. Though we  begin with lament based on hardships we may be facing, we choose to commit to praise and eventually to gratitude.

Spend some time today pondering a recent hardship you faced. Are you still experiencing it? If yes, commit to praising God in the midst of the struggle. If you have moved past the hardship, spend some time thanking Him for carrying you through.

No matter the circumstances, choose to praise Him today.
