I was thrilled to see this book cross my desk since I enjoyed the first book in the series so much. I was excited to see where the story would take us next. Luckily I had read the first book in the series, so had a basic background already for what was going on and was able to see familiar characters. But even if you missed the first book, you will find you can keep up with the story. Once again, author Mary Connealy weaves a story that is imaginative, exciting, and informative. She transports readers to the past, creating scenes that you can picture in your mind and giving you insight into a different period of time. Her writing was well researched and full of descriptive detail that brought the era to life in an educational manner without seeming academic. The love story within was not the main focus, unfolding easily and serenely in the backgound of the plot. I love the treasure hunting aspect, too. I have always been fascinated with legends like the one they were pursuing and found myself eager to see if they’d find what they were looking for. The elements of faith were built into the story and didn’t feel preachy or overwhelming, giving you a clean, enjoyable historical story. I also appreciate the humor throughout the book, as well as the mystery of the long-lost brother who is sketchy and possibly dangerous. Overall, I felt it was a great continuation of the series and I am eager to read the final book in the series. If you enjoy historical fiction and clean romance, this is a book you need to add to your to-read list. I was very pleased with my time spent reading it.
