Devotion: John 15:16

Sept. 25, 2025

John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

A few days back we mentioned that we were created for a purpose. Isaiah was called to be God’s voice and you were called for a purpose as well. Today we revisit that calling and go deeper into what it means and how we can obey.

We start out by seeing that we were not the ones who chose God, but God who chose us. He not only chose us, but He appointed us and commissioned us to go forth and tell others of His grace and goodness. Yes, we choose to follow Him, we choose to obey. But He has a great plan for us, a bigger purpose and we need to be obedient to His call.

We are all commissioned to go forth and share the Gospel with ALL of the nations, with all people everywhere (Matthew 28:19-20). We are to go out and share, to bear fruit. But what does that mean, bear fruit? This fruit refers to good works and spiritual qualities that each of us has thanks to the Holy Spirit living within us. He gives us love, peace, and kindness, amongst other fruit, and we are to share that with the world and let it have a lasting, eternal impact in their lives. We are equipped by the Spirit to embark on this great commission and are empowered with the words to share and the people we are to speak with. And it is not just missionaries who have this commission. Every Christian is called to be a light in the darkness (Psalm 27:1;Matthew 5:14). Every one of us is called to share with the world, and that starts with those around you, not necessarily people in far away nations. Your friends, your neighbors, your family… they ALL need Jesus. And YOU have the message to give them hope and a future!

Whatever we do, we do it all for the glory of God. We are His feet in a world needing guidance, His hands to those needing help, His voice to those who thirst for knowledge. And He gives us what we need. Anything we ask in His Name He will provide. He equips us to stand up in our faith and shine like that beacon in the darkness.

Who can you share Jesus with today?
