2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
Today’s verse is one we have covered before in the past, but which we will explore once more with fresh eyes. Today we examine this verse in light of grace and what it means for us.
Here is what this verse looks like in the Amplified Version: but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.
My grace is sufficient for you. What exactly does this mean? This phrase means that God’s unmerited favor and strength are all that is needed to face any challenge – it is a gift He gives us, undeserved. His power is made perfect through our weakness. When we are weak, He is strong. This biblical phrase assures us that we have everything we need from God for the present moment, regardless of our circumstances. Instead of expecting God to remove a weakness, this promise shifts the focus to God’s strength working through your limitations, which often makes His power all the more evident. He provides the strength for us to withstand whatever challenges are before us.
Are you letting His grace be sufficient for all of your needs? Or are you hindering the blessings He has for you and not allowing them to flow freely? There is no need to be strong. He is our strength and He will carry us through whatever struggles we face because His grace is sufficient for you. Let your boast be in that fact today.
