Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Yesterday we started out our month with a look at prayer and evaluated just how much gratitude we show in our daily prayer life (1 Timothy 2:1). Today we are continuing the theme with a verse that is one of my go-to verses for anxious thinking. But we are not discussing the anxiety aspect. Instead we are focusing on the thanksgiving aspect that is included.
Did you know one of the best ways to change your thinking is to count your blessings? Often when I am overwhelmed and feeling anxious (which is more often than it should be), I will turn to gratitude and start counting my blessings. It is amazing how it can change your thinking. I have found that focusing on positives in your life and all the wonderful things He has done for you is the best way to battle negativity and anxious thinking.
Paul told us in Philippians not to be anxious about anything. ANYTHING. That is hard to do! But he told us not to be anxious about anything, but in every situation, EVERY situation, present our requests to God. How? With a thankful heart. We go to God in gratitude and thanksgiving to present our requests to the Lord who provides, the One who gives and takes away (Job 1:21).
We turn to God with a thankful heart. Having a thankful heart helps us to acknowledge His past faithfulness. It also helps us to believe that He will provide for any future needs we have (Philippians 4:19).
Are you letting anxiety control your life? Turn to God and give Him your anxious thoughts and worries. Thank Him for always being there and always guiding you and trust that He is in control and will do it again.
