Devotion: Romans 16:4

Nov. 10 2025

Romans 16:4 They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them.

Can you imagine what Christianity would be if Paul had not lived? We wouldn’t have a huge portion of the New Testament and would have lost all of the amazing teachings he gave us through each letter he wrote. Thankfully, God led people into his life to risk their lives for Paul.

So what does that have to do with us today?

I am not saying that we need to risk our lives for others. But we do need to be thankful for the people in our lives and those in our churches and fellowships. Each person has a role to play and collectively we all form one body, one Church. And each part is important and we should be thankful for them.

This verse is a good reminder for Christians that we all should be grateful for anyone who supports the mission of Christ. It challenges us to consider how each of us can serve others while also partnering in spreading the gospel throughout our communities and the world.

What are you doing to support the mission of Christ? And who are you supporting and encouraging that is doing this? We should be thanking God for everyone who is working for Christ, and encouraging others to step into a role where they can serve God and further the church’s mission, too.

Regardless of who is serving and who is not, we should be thankful for each person because they are saved and redeemed, which is reason enough to praise God.
