Author of Hearts on the Fly

T4JYM: Your book, Hearts on the Fly, releases earlier this month. Can you tell our readers what they can expect from it?

TS: I’d be happy to. You can expect a swoony hockey hero who helps the heroine know what it’s like to be seen. You can expect a heroine who knows how to be a friend and shine the light of Jesus. And most importantly, you’ll see the message of salvation and what it means to follow Jesus.

T4JYM: What does the writing process look like for you? Walk us through everything that happens from inspiration to writing to editing to submission and finally publication.

TS: Usually I get an idea or a character introduces themselves and tells me an idea. I then do the research to figure out who my character is, what their job is, and the location. Once those items are researched I write the first draft. While I’m writing the first draft, my critique partners are reading it chapter by chapter. I don’t read their comments until I’m done and ready to start the second draft. After the second draft it goes to my editor who then reads it and makes suggestions on how to revise it and make it better. Then it goes through a few round of edits before it’s ready to be printed and published.

T4JYM: What’s next? Do you have any new writing in the works? Or any other projects?

TS: Yes! I always have something in the works. On September 1st, my latest Christmas novella will release. Matchmaking Christmas is about two single parents who get matchmaked by their daughters. It gives The Parent Trap vibes at Christmastime.

T4JYM: Let’s have a little fun… What is your favorite: Food? Drink? Color? TV show? Musician/Band? Hobby? Movie? Book of the Bible? Bible Verse? Worship Song?

TS: I adore cheesecake. A good match latte. All things Pink. Any k-drama. I’m not sure I have a favorite musician/band because I listen to a wide range of music. My favorite hobby is fingerknitting. Favorite movie is 2005 Pride & Prejudice. Favorite book of the Bible are the Psalms. Philippians 4:6-7 has always been my go-to. And worship song depends on mood. I currently like “Goodness of God” by Cece Winans.

T4JYM: Are you involved in ministry in your own church or anywhere else?

TS: I am! I’m a small group leader at my church and I also help teach for our women’s Bible studies. Teaching and talking about the Lord is one of my favorite things to do. I’ve also written a couple of Bible studies (one has yet to be published) that my church as used for our women’s Bible studies as well.

T4JYM: What advice would you give to someone interested in publishing?

TS: Read in the genre you’d like to be published in. Join a writer’s organization and attend writing conferences. There’s so much information you can gain from doing these things as well as finding the people you connect with to walk alongside this writing journey.
