Comfort in God

By Randi Short

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).

For some of you, you’ve had it tough in life. Things happen and you get torn up about it. Family problems, problems with your friends, sickness, losing someone you love, etc. It IS tough, there’s no doubt about it.

But, this verse says that if you go to God, He’ll refresh you. If you bring to Him all your sin, shame, pain, and heartache. IF you bring it to Him, He’ll give you rest. He’ll open up His arms and gently cradle you.

I know oftentimes when we go through situations there is nothing we love more than to be loved, have someone alongside of us, give us a hug or just for company. But, there are times when no one is around. And oftentimes we pretend that this doesn’t bother us either. Some situations we are in, we pretend to be strong, when in fact it is tearing us up inside.

But. God says, “Come to me!”

When your parents are fighting, God says, “Come to me!”
When your friends don’t want anything to do with you anymore, God says, “Come to me!”
When you’re sick and have no strength left, God says, “Come to me!”
When someone you love passes away, God says, “Come to me!”

We can go to God about anything. And He doesn’t give us a pity party. The Message Bible translates this verse in saying that God will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.

Does this mean that the situation will change? Not always, though it can. But it means that in the middle of everything you’re going through – God says, I AM HERE! I AM WITH YOU! He tells you that He’ll go through it with you and give you peace and comfort.

God cares enough about you to take you in His arms; He loves you more than you could ever imagine. Remember that in the midst of every circumstance and every situation God says, “Come to me!” That is His desire!
