Romans 11:26 And in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
Today’s name is not a formal name, but rather a descriptive one instead. Today we will learn about our deliverer.
The word deliverer is used ten times in the Bible. It is first seen in Judges 3:9 and the last use of it is in today’s passage in Romans. A deliverer is a person who delivers, releases, or rescues someone else. Moses was viewed as a deliverer for the Israelites fleeing Egypt. We frequently see David crying for deliverance in the Psalms. And many times we read of one deliverance after another in the Old Testament. Deliverance was a common theme throughout.
But Jesus is OUR deliverer and one of the more favored interpretations of this verse is of Him delivering us when He returns in the end times. Isaiah prophesied about a deliverer from Zion that will banish Israel’s ungodliness (Isaiah 59:20). It is likely that Paul was referring to that verse in Isaiah when he wrote the book of Romans.
Regardless of whether He delivers us in the end or not, we can turn to Him now and be delivered from the bonds of sin. Let Him break those chains and set you free. Cry out to Him for deliverance. He is faithful and He is waiting for you today and everyday.
