Galatians 3:22 But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
We are all sinful creatures, captive to the sins of our fathers. We inherited our sinful natures and cannot escape them. But they are not prisons that will keep us from growing in our faith! We can overcome and can continue to learn new things each day that help us to live a life that is pleasing to God.
As new believers, we often look at the Law from the Old Testament and think “There’s no way I can ever do that!” And you are right! The Law is not there to discourage us or to tell us we are bad and can’t do it. We know that. None of us are righteous (Romans 3:10). We are all sinners and in need of a Savior (Romans 5:8). But Jesus did not come to abolish the Law, but rather to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). He became the sacrifice we needed for our sins because on our own we couldn’t do it. We needed Him to do it for us! And that requires us putting our faith in Him and then growing in our faith each day for the rest of our lives.
As soon as we accept Christ’s sacrifice for our sins on the cross, we are justified. We are saved and made new. As one commentary put it, “Jesus took our hell; we receive His heaven.” How inspiring and encouraging! That should give you hope today and every day.
The Law cannot give us eternal life. Eternal life is only found in Him. If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, today is the day to change that. Talk to God and open your heart to Him. Let Him be the sacrifice for YOUR sins.
