Devotion: Habakkuk 2:3

Sept. 4, 2025

Habakkuk 2:3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

Yesterday we learned that each of us is called for a purpose, one which was established before the beginning of time. Today we are taken into the book of Habakkuk to a time when the prophet was concerned about the injustices he was witnessing and God’s seemingly unconcern for His people who were under Babylonian oppression. God’s response is what we are studying in today’s verse.

We see in this verse that there is an appointed time for revelation to be seen. One of the hardest things we have to do sometimes is wait. But God reminds us that everything has a time. And we are told to be patient and await it. We have a guaranteed outcome to whatever we wait for. Whether that outcome is what we hope for or not is irrelevant. An outcome WILL come about and it comes at the perfect time.

This verse encourages us to stand strong and have faith in Him. Just because it seems far out of reach doesn’t mean He is not working. He is not being indifferent. He is being Himself, all knowing and all seeing, meaning He knows the outcome and the perfect time for us to receive it.

This verse may have been written specifically for a time in the past and a people no longer alive, but the message remains the same. Trust God. Know that He has a purpose, a plan, and He is already working it out for our benefit. God’ s promises and His judgements are trustworthy. They will be fulfilled according to His divine schedule according to His purpose.

If you find yourself in a season of waiting, don’t lose heart. Remember this verse. Memorize it and repeat it when doubts arise.
