Review:
This story reminded me a lot of the types of stories I loved reading when I was younger. My parents introduced me to historical fiction and clean romance when I was in high school (after a neighbor had given me a smutty novel full of sex and cussing). This was my first opportunity to read a book by author Lauraine Snelling (written with Kiersti Giron) and I can say I am definitely a fan now. I love her writing style, the flow of the story, the descriptions, the well thought out characters who took on a life of their own with each page I read… It was a very well-written masterpiece that transported me to historic Iowa and the struggles of living in a land yet to be tamed. The romance within the story was nicely done without feeling fake or unbelievable. It naturally developed and was a beautiful reminder of the Lord’s plan for our lives despite heartache and grief. You truly feel for Maya and the loss of her husband but see the Lord’s hand at work as she moves forward with her life. I love the faith element that was present throughout the entire story. It was a natural part of the story, and you didn’t feel like you were being preached at. It also reminded me that faith was an important part of the daily life of many people at that time, something we have gotten away from in the world we live in today. Though I did not read book one, I didn’t feel like I was jumping into a story halfway through and missing out on things I should already know. I was able to read the book and follow the storyline with no troubles at all despite missing out on book 1. I do think I would like to see what book 1 offered though, as well as check out other books by Snelling.  As I said, I am now a fan of this author and look forward to reading more of her works!
