Devotion: Isaiah 43:19

June 9, 2026

Isaiah 43:19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Today’s verse is a prophetic promise of deliverance spoken of by the Lord through the prophet Isaiah. It was supposed to be reassurance to the exiled Israelites who had been in captivity in Babylon for many years. He gave them hope and reassurance that He would rescue them from their captivity.

This verse alludes to the previous salvation He gave His people when He led them from Egypt, parting the Red Sea and making a way when the way looked impossible. He was again preparing to save His people, this time from Babylon so that they could return to the Promised Land.

He promised them that He was doing a new thing. Though He did miracles in the past, He was preparing to do a new thing to lead them home. We see “wilderness” and “streams” in the verse, which hearken back to the times before when He led them through the wastelands and provided for their needs.

And He is making a way for you when the way seems impossible. He is leading you from a place of spiritual dryness and hardship and into the Promised Land of faith and righteousness. Are you seeing it? Do you not perceive it? He is working! Have faith, trust in Him to work miracles in your life when impossibility looms in your sight. He promises to create a path and provide the sustenance and life-giving water in the wilderness where it didn’t exist before.

He is doing a new thing in your life. You can stop worrying about the unknown path, the impossible outcome, the lack of a future. He is doing a new thing and all you need to do now is wait on Him and then step out of the wilderness and into the Promised Land.

Prayer: Lord, My way seems blocked by struggle, challenges, and impossibilities. I need You to work Your miracles and do a new thing in my life. Lead me into the Promised Land and the future You have established for me. Amen
