Psalm 119:28 My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
What a soulful, heart wrenching verse. My soul is weary with sorrow. Some versions say My soul melts. We can see the psalmist was truly struggling with the weight of emotions in this verse. He was struggling so much he felt his soul was defeated and depressed. Something many of us can understand and relate to.
When grief buries us or depression leaves us drowning, it is easy to relate to the words of this psalm. And it is even easier to succumb to the feelings, to falter under the weight of the emotions and feel weary and burdened.
But we have hope! We can find renewal in the midst of the suffering, in the darkness of our despair. We can be encouraged and uplifted.
How?
God’s Word. It is His Word that gives us hope. It gives us encouragement. It restores our soul. It refreshes our lives. It inspires, uplifts, guides, gives life. It is the source of our strength.
Whatever season you find yourself in, turn to God’s Word. Let His Word be the strength you need to get through whatever hardship you face. Let it be the hope when you face dark days. Feel the renewal flow through you when you read it and draw strength from the words that grace the pages.
Be encouraged, friend! We have a God who loves us and provides for us in so many different ways. Not only do we have the Spirit within us to guide us and give us discernment, but we have the Word to strengthen us and equip us to step out boldly into a world that needs Jesus. Dig in to the Word. Hide it in your heart. Meditate on it. And be renewed.
Prayer: Lord, Thank You for giving us Your holy Word to be our strength and guidance. Let it refresh and renew me each day as I read from it and learn. Let me memorize it and meditate on it when times are dark. Amen
