Devotion: Ephesians 1:7

Oct. 22, 2025

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.

As the month progresses I find myself saying the same things each day with a slightly different twist to the message. And while at times it feels redundant and unnecessary, I remind myself that it IS necessary because these are the basic foundations of our faith. Without Jesus, the cross, and His grace what would we have? Where would we be?

And today is another reminder of what we have in Him. We have redemption. We have freedom. We have salvation. We have grace.

Redemption is the basic idea that we have been bought back from slavery or set free. Through His blood, His sacrifice on the cross, we have had the wages of sin paid in full (Romans 6:23). We are now free to live a life for Him, in service to Him, as thanks for saving us from eternal separation.

All of this has come about through His grace. Paul says in accordance with the riches of God’s grace. This is abundance or a lavishing of grace that we have been given, entirely free and of nothing we did ourselves. God has blessed us generously and abundantly with grace and forgiveness. It is not just sufficient for meeting our needs but is overflowing.

Earlier in the month we talked about grace upon grace, grace where grace had already been given. We receive an outpouring of grace from God and His goodness and love. He is truly an amazing God and wants none to perish but all to know Him (2 Peter 3:9).
