Devotion: Jeremiah 31:25

June 11, 2026

Jeremiah 31:25 I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.

It is hard for us to understand just how devastating things had been for the Israelites. Because of their sins and lack of repentance, their homes had been destroyed, the Temple obliterated, and they had been exiled to a foreign land. To say they were weary and faint seems like the incorrect translation. These people were depleted both physically and spiritually. They were full of sorrow and grief.

Most of Jeremiah’s prophecies were dark and depressing, focusing on judgment and doom. But today’s verse comes from the section of his prophecies known as the Book of Consolation. In this section, he shared a message of hope. He assured the Israelites that God would bring renewal and refreshing, reviving and sustaining their spirits. There would eventually be a future, national restoration, a return to their homeland, and the promise of a New Covenant.

Through the prophet, God promised to completely fulfill the deepest needs of those who were exhausted and lacked strength. He pledged to restore those who were grieved and offered a soul-refreshing rest.

Everything He promised then, He provides today, as well. You may feel weary and faint today but He can and will bring you renewal and restoration. All you have to do is seek Him. Turn to Him, tell Him what’s on your heart and mind, and trust Him to work in your life.

No matter how dark things feel, no matter how bad it feels, know that He has a plan. He can and will use all things for His purposes and His glory. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. He is always there, always with us, always waiting on us to make a move.

What are you waiting for? He is waiting for you. Talk to Him today and feel His renewing goodness flow through you. Let Him refresh your mind, body, and soul.

Prayer: Thank You for being faithful and renewing me when I am weary and weak. Let me be refreshed and ready to serve You every day and in every way. Amen
